The Year in Review: BMW 2011 Highlights

Call us nostalgic, but we here at Lauderdale BMW of Pembroke Pines find it hard to pass up the opportunity of reflecting back on all that BMW has accomplished this year. We realized there is a lot to talk about. 2011 has been filled with a ton of "news" from the German automaker: new models, new plants, and a new division for instance. There were also several new technologies explored and invented, and new partnerships were formed.

BMW introduced several new models this year, including all-new versions of the: BMW 6 Series Convertible and  2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe with XDrive, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe , and the new ActivE all-electric vehicle. The company also debuted a new vehicle division title the BMW i, "Born Electric." From this division will come the electric i3 and i8. The German automaker also partnered with the U.S. Olympic Team to build the BMW Performance Team, which is currently assisting eleven Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls. The BMW Guggenheim Lab opened in NYC as well, encouraging a universal dialog on improving urban life.

BMW also found the time to open two new manufacturing plants. The BMW/SBL Group opened a carbon-fiber manufacturing plant in Washington state. This material will be used predominantly in the upcoming BMW i3 and i8. In addition, the Spartanburg, SC manufacturing plant was expanded and re-opened. It produces all BMW X3, BMW X5, and BMW X6 models.
